Choice A: Under the Sea (Dysart)
Get ready for an amazing adventure as we study God’s many underwater creatures using the lessons in Apologia’s book Swimming Creatures of the 5th Day. Each week we will watch underwater dive videos created by Jonathan Bird and color, paint, and make clay models of different creatures. Students will show off their clay creations by making an ocean diorama box to display on our final closing program day. Students will also write and present a short report to their classmates about a specific echinoderm or cephalopod.
Student Supplies: Cardboard box for diorama
Choice B: Paper Airplanes (Doblin)
Welcome to your fastest opportunity for aviation glory. In Paper Airplane Construction class, each week, students will be learning how to fold and construct different paper airplanes. Each week students will be introduced to different types of paper airplanes focusing on distance, time aloft, acrobatic, and decorative. In class students will make a particular paper airplane design out of multiple paper options and then have an opportunity to test fly their creations. As we progress through the class, students will develop a paper airplane portfolio filled with the design plans for constructing their paper airplanes.

It’s unique because it can be played off the wall in the gym so play continues without much time stoppage, almost like a combination of soccer and hockey. The students will learn basic soccer skills such as ball handling, passing, and working as a team.
Student Supplies: Comfortable court shoes and possibly shin guards (depends on the level of competitiveness in the class)
Choice B: Introduction to Astronomy (MacPherson)
We will be introducing the students to some of the celestial bodies that we can see at night. Starting with our nearest neighbor (the moon) we will be expanding outwards, looking at the rest of the solar system and then on to the stars! While we will touch on some of the more technical aspects of astronomy (telescopes, observatories etc.), the focus will be to keep it simple and help the students to understand what they see when they look up. As the weather permits, students will be expected to do approximately 15-30 minutes of stargazing per week and record their observations in their astronomy journal. Students will have the opportunity to present observations during the class if they want.
