Ages 13 - 18​

First Hour

Choice A: Missions in Southeast Asia (Dysart)
​

God is at work in Southeast Asia drawing people to Himself. After a brief overview of Southeast Asian history, we will study the history of Christian missions in this region of the world. We also plan to invite guest speakers to come and share their stories. Each week we will discuss a few chapters from a lesser known story titled Return of the White Book. This book tells the amazing story of God’s work among the Karen people of Myanmar and Thailand.

Student Supplies: Return of the White Book by Rebecca Davis – Please note this book is NOT available on Kindle. The book is available on Book Depository (allow 2 months for delivery) or Amazon (if you’ll be in America over the summer or would like to have a friend bring the book back for you).

Choice B: Worldviews (Carter)

Exactly what is this world? Find out in this introduction to worldviews class! Students will be introduced to some big questions – Why is the world here? What is a human being? Is there a God? Then we will study four competing approaches to answering the big questions: theism, atheism, pantheism and paganism. Finally, we’ll seek to understand the Christian faith as a worldview and compare it to a contemporary secular worldview.

Choice C:  Study Hall

Teenage students are allowed to choose one class hour per semester to be a Study Hall.  The co-op is screen free so students must bring work that does not require a device to complete.​

Second Hour

Choice A: Movie Production (Stream) - Waitlist
​

This course will serve to introduce students to the general process of movie production from start to finish. Students will learn, in a highly interactive and participatory manner, the basic concepts of scriptwriting, casting, location scouting, pre-production planning, lighting and sound design, film techniques, editing, movie effects, marketing, and distribution. There will be smaller class projects to complete and students will put their learning to use by producing a final class project.

Student Supplies: Notebook; Some weeks 1-3 students will be asked to bring cell phones or iPads for filming the movie

Choice B: Classic Film Appreciation (Vess)

During the golden era of Hollywood (1930s - 1950s), stars and film-makers were true masters of their craft. In this class, students will develop an appreciation for the artistic beauty of many films from this era. Students will walk away from this class with an understanding of key genres, as well as the names and faces of significant actors and actresses. They might even become a fan of classic cinema!

Choice C:  Study Hall

Third Hour

Choice A: Badminton (Scamehorn)
​

The objective of this class is to develop badminton skills such as: holding the racquet, racquet grip, serving, strokes, footwork, stances, hand-eye coordination, timing and rhythm, perception anticipation, and the rules of the game. The students will learn to play in pairs, doubles, and tournament games, as well as games such as Attack and Defend, Ping-Pong Badminton, Around the World, and King of the Court.

Choice B: Frisbee Games (Doblin)

For the Frisbee Games and MORE class, students will enjoy an 11-week orientation into all the exciting games and activities that can be done with frisbees. From Ultimate to Kan Jam and Disc Golf to Polish Horseshoes, students will have fun learning how to play various sports and games with frisbees.

Choice C:  Study Hall

Ages 10 – 12

First Hour

Choice A:  Thai Cooking (Kulwarapon) - Waitlist

The class will immerse students in the world of Thai food! The students will learn how to cook simple, common Thai dishes, which includes learning the names of the cooking ingredients, cooking methods, and how to order dishes from a Thai restaurant or street food stall. The students will also try and learn the names of Thai snacks and fruits, so when they go to the market they know what the foods are called and what they taste like.

Choice B:  Watercolor (Wu)

We will practice different types of washes, how to use different values to create the effects of light and shadow, some color theory, and techniques for creating texture.

Second Hour

Choice A:  Races & Games (Dian)

Let’s run, crawl, throw, catch, kick, and block! We will form teams and have relay races and team competitions throughout the semester.

Choice B:  Ping Pong (Leskovsky) - Waitlist

In this fun class we’ll learn the basic rules for both singles and doubles ping pong. We’ll learn serving rules and techniques, forward and backhand techniques, and how to score single and double matches.

Third Hour

Choice A:  Tour of Europe (DeMoss) - Waitlist

In this class we will visit a different country in Europe every week. Just like real tourists, we will engage all 5 of our senses as we learn about the widely diverse cultures and customs that are represented on this small continent.

Choice B:  Economics Detectives (Miskimen)
​​
We will read short mystery stories about a boy and his friends and then learn about basic economic concepts, such as supply and demand, risk, incentives, and trade-offs, to solve the mystery. (Similar to the Encyclopedia Brown detective book series.)
​

Ages 8 - 9

First Hour

Choice A:  Floorball (Duncan)

Dribble, pass, defend and shoot! Come and learn how to play floorball with us! Floorball is a type of hockey played wearing shoes instead of skates and the puck is a whiffle ball. Students will play various games and run drills to learn the fundamentals of the sport. They will also get to enjoy some time scrimmaging to learn teamwork.

​Choice B:  Insects (Turner)
​
In this class, the students will learn about insects. Each week, the children will study a different insect’s traits, life cycle, and the things they do. There will be an art project or a game/activity to go with each lesson. Some weeks the students will have a snack based on the lesson.

Second Hour

Choice A:  Blood & Guts (MacPherson)

In this fun class your child will learn how our bodies work! Do you ever wonder how your hands move or why your pee is yellow? Well, you're not alone! Join this class to find out the answers to these questions and many more! We will do an experiment/hands-on demonstration each class to show how different systems in our bodies work and gain a new appreciation of God as Artist & Creator.

Choice B:  Flags of the World (Vande Voort)

Students will be introduced to the flags and locations of countries around the world!  Each week we will play games to learn to recognize the flags. Select flags will be highlighted to show the cultural significance of the colors or symbols. As a final project students will collaborate to create a flag for the Chiang Mai Homeschool Co-op!

Third Hour

Choice A:  Elements of Art (Lee)

In this class we will learn to appreciate art by identifying the elements and principles used in different artworks. Students will explore elements such as texture, color, shape, line, form, value, balance, contrast, movement, distortion, and emphasis. Students will use a variety of mediums including paint, clay, and charcoal. Students will learn and apply art theory to start building a small art portfolio.

Choice B:  Origami (Parichart)

Transform a simple piece of paper into a special creation with origami! Each week we’ll focus on one main origami piece. After creating the origami piece, the students will use their creativity to either turn it into a more elaborate craft or create a background picture for the origami piece.

Ages 6 - 7

First Hour

Relays & Games (Cheeseman)

We'll play outdoor games and form team relays to focus on cooperation, coordination, and listening skills.

Second Hour

My Place in Space (Higgins)

In this class we will be learning about space and our amazing solar system. Through books, art projects, hands-on crafts, games, and fun videos we will learn all about astronauts, planets, the Milky Way and more!

Third Hour

Dr. Seuss (Wood)
​​

In this class we will build on early reading skills, read many fun Dr. Seuss books, and do Dr. Seuss themed crafts.
​

Ages 4 - 5

First Hour

Holidays Around the World (Musselman)
​​
Each week we will travel to a different country, learning about how they celebrate winter holidays. Each country will have a different craft, game, song, or food that’s enjoyed.
​

Second Hour

Songs & Stories (Hemathulintra)
​
The children will enjoy singing songs, reciting poems, participating in group activities, and listening to stories with dolls and stuffed animals.

Third Hour

Playground Fun (Staub)

The little ones will have free play outside as they enjoy using the playground equipment, popping bubbles, drawing with sidewalk chalk, and playing simple games.

Ages 1 - 3

First Hour

Outside Play (Blaxton)

The little ones will have free play outside as they enjoy using the playground equipment, popping bubbles, and playing simple games.

Second Hour

Inside Play (Chiang)
​​

The little ones will have free play inside as they enjoy being read books, doing puzzles, singing songs, and playing with toys.

Third Hour

Creative Play (Chiang)
​

The little ones will have a creative themed class where they enjoy playing with playdough, creating simple crafts, and doing hands on activities.

CMHC is currently unable to provide a nursery for children under the age of 1.
